The latest craze is, in fact, the fire-breathing dragon itself, CHARIZARD. You can find these UPCs pretty readily at your LCS, Target, Walmart, and many other online retailers. Luckily for you, Pokemon has printed many of these sets, so we can all get our hands on it!
The Box & The Promo Cards
The box & the Promo cards. The box itself is gorgeous. The iconic dragon covers the front of the box and opens up to reveal a pink-to-purple outline of Charizard. Inside, you will find three different boxes pull out’s. Included in the set are 3 Charizard promo cards (making up more than half of the box’s value according to current market prices.) The Charizard V, Charizard VStar, and Charizard VMAX and undeniably gorgeous. The Charizard V features Venasaur in the background, much like the Brilliant Stars Alt Art. The Charizard Vstar has Mewtwo getting ready for an attack with Charizard floating overhead. The Charizard Vmax has the dragon in a more sinister look, wreaking havoc on the Pokemon world.
The Coins, Dice, Sleeves, & Playmat
Masterfully made, the coins and dice are amazing. The sheer weight of the coin and dice make you feel like the price is really worth it! Heavy to the feel, the gold dice and coin will surely be carried to many tournaments and battles. Well done, Pokemon. However, the sleeves… the sleeves are horrible! A terrible print on the sleeves makes me not like the Charizard Vmax as much. They are printed on red sleeves and look like the terrible t-shirts made at the mall, where they just print a square image onto it. Sheesh! But not all is gloomy – the playmat is nice! Solid 7/10.
The Packs
Inside the box comes 16 packs. 3 Brilliant Stars, 3 Astral Radiance, 2 Lost Origins, 1 Darkness Ablaze, 2 Vivid Voltage, 3 Evolving Skies, and 3 Fusion Strike. With an amazing array of packs, we couldn’t miss… right?! Well, unfortunately, no amazing cards were pulled. Maybe it was just our luck…
Once thing I want to mention is that our second box came with 17 packs! What an error – and we’ll take it!
Would I recommend it?
I love the box. The variety of packs, the amazing dice and coins, and the promo cards make the price tag worth it! The only change I would make are the sleeves. Maybe some better hits in the packs, too, but I suppose not everyone can hit an alt art every time! It definitely would make a great Christmas gift!
